Learning improv is the best thing I’ve ever done for myself. It has helped me in every aspect of my life. Even if you never intend to be a performer, use it to help you with job interviews, or handling crazy life experiences, or simply as a way to relieve stress.
Curious Comedy theater is excited to partner up with Lez Stand Up for a fun, new, and exciting show at Curious. LEZ STAND UP may be the first comedy show ever that is lesbian, feminist, AND funny. Tickets: $5 advance/ $10 door. Get ‘em early for half off!
If you’ve seen Jay on our stage you know he’s cool under pressure… but this is ridiculous!! Here he is on The Spicy News, think you could handle it?

One of our favorite humans Gabe Dinger - Comediandropping some PDX yo momma snaps in the Willamette Week’s “Joke in a Box”. You can see Gabe tonight in Cinema Curioso or anywhere Whiskey Tango is served!!
Years ago, when I was doing stand up regularly, I had the opportunity to open for Susan Rice at Harvey’s Comedy Club. Working with her was a breath of fresh air, because she was such a change of pace from the typical collection of young male comics in the local comedy scene. This isn’t to say Susan couldn’t be tough, or even brutal, when she wanted to be. But she also had a sort of motherly presence.
After my first set of the week, I came offstage and Susan complimented my set, and then said, “But you never wear red on stage. Not with that complexion, honey. You wear blues or greens.” Sage comedy advice that I still remember to this day. Then she went up onstage and absolutely KILLED that audience.
I guess what I’m trying to say is, GO SEE THIS SHOW PEOPLE!
IFC has really stepped up the bar the last couple years (Portlandia,Comedy Bang Bang, The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaretanyone?). Can’t decide if I’m more excited for the new Ferrell/Mckay or Stiller/Odenkirk project!

The All Jane No Dick Comedy Festival is coming back to the Curious Comedy Theater! We are currently booking talented female headliners from across the nation/globe/galaxy. Who do you want to see this year?
The All Jane No Dick Comedy Festival is a really great event. Even if you aren’t in the Portland area, tell me: If you could see any female comedian perform live, who would it be?
Nope. People love to play up this myth but it’s actually not true. There are plenty of incredible comedians who are not depressed. Two good examples are Jerry Seinfeld and Jimmy Fallon. Another example is Steve Martin, although people like to reference his strained relationship with his father as the fuel for his comedic fire.
The truth is the tortured comic is a much sexier story than the happy go-lucky comedian. And yes, there are plenty of examples of depressed comedians, but there are also plenty of examples of depressed teachers, accountants, CEOs, bartenders, etc.
Comedians are already glorified by society, and then the depressed ones are glorified even more. I feel bad for the depressed warehouse workers of the world who are ignored because their story isn’t sexy enough for us.

In this improv scene, a hostage situation turns into a porn film.

An improv scene from last night’s Open Court at the Curious Comedy Theater ( @curiouscomedy ). I apologize for the poor video/sound quality.
