So, I realize these are kind of funny and I’m not trying to rain on everyone’s fun meme parade. But I don’t really understand why McKayla Maroney is being ridiculed for being unimpressed with second place.
While getting a silver medal in the Olympics is an honor and is more than many people will ever achieve, the bottom line is Maroney lost. And for a true competitor, failure is not something to ever be excited about. It’s not like Maroney threw a fit and made a fool of herself. She merely refused to put on a fake smile and allowed her face to express how she truly felt in the moment, which is to say disappointed.
I would be very proud of my son if he handled one of the most crushing losses of his athletic career with this level of composure.
